Bryson W. Katona, MD, PhD, AGAF, CGAF
Dr. Bryson Katona is the Jeffery and Cynthia King Assistant Professor of Lynch Syndrome Research in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He also holds appointments as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Genetics, is a member of the Cancer Control Program at the Abramson Cancer Center, and serves as:
Director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Genetics Program
Director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Risk Evaluation Program
Director of the Lynch Syndrome Program
Dr. Katona earned his BA and MS in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed his MD/PhD at Washington University in St. Louis. He returned to Penn for his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship before joining the faculty.
A physician-scientist specializing in gastrointestinal cancer genetics, Dr. Katona’s research spans basic, translational, and clinical domains, with a focus on the diagnosis, risk assessment, management, and biology of hereditary GI cancer syndromes.
He currently serves as Past-President and Treasurer-Elect of the Collaborative Group of the Americas on Inherited Gastrointestinal Cancer (CGA-IGC). He is Chair of the Familial Cancer Syndromes and Cancer Genetics Abstract Review Committee for Digestive Disease Week, Chair of the Publications Committee for the PRECEDE Consortium, and serves on national committees for ASCO and NCCN.
