Sonia Kupfer, MD, AGAF, CGAF

Dr. Sonia Kupfer is a physician-scientist whose clinical and research expertise lies in gastrointestinal cancers, inherited cancer syndromes, and health disparities. A graduate of Yale University, she completed her medical training—including Chief Residency and a Gastroenterology fellowship—at the University of Chicago.

She is currently Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, where she holds leadership roles as:
- Director of the Center for Clinical Genetics & Genomics
- Founding Director of the Community for Advancement of Physician-Scientists (CAPS) program

Dr. Kupfer has received support from the NIH, AGA, and GI Research Foundation. She is Past-President of the Collaborative Group of the Americas on Inherited Gastrointestinal Cancer (CGA-IGC) and a council member of the International Society for Inherited Gastrointestinal Tumors (InSiGHT). She serves on the Board of Editors for Gastroenterology.

Her honors include the UChicago Diversity and Inclusion Junior Award, the Joseph B. Kirsner Mentorship Award, and the AGA Young Investigator Award.
